Large format tile
Fewer grout lines mean a cleaner look and less to clean, and because the pattern is interrupted less often, a small room reads as bigger than it is.
A feature wall
A different colour, texture or pattern turns one surface into the focal point. Shower walls, a bathroom accent wall, a kitchen backsplash or the wall behind a vanity are the natural candidates.

Large floor tiles with smaller shower tiles, or large wall tiles with mosaic accents around niches and borders. Keep the colours and finishes coordinated and the mix reads as depth rather than indecision.
Neutral palettes
White, grey, beige and soft earth tones stay timeless, survive changes of paint and décor, appeal to future buyers, and make later updates cheaper because the tile can stay.
A spa-like bathroom
Natural stone looks, wood-look tile, a soft palette and floor-to-ceiling shower tile are what produce that effect, and none of them are difficult to specify.
Slip resistance
It matters in showers, bathroom floors, laundry rooms and kitchen floors. Modern slip-resistant tile gives you grip without looking like a safety product.
